A 10-Year-Old Asked for Donations Instead of Birthday Presents . . . And Raised $1,000 for Her Local Police Department

When you're a kid, the only thing you look forward to more than Christmas presents is BIRTHDAY presents.  But not ALL 10-year-olds are materialistic little brats.
For example, take 10-year-old Allison Henry from Palmer, Massachusetts.  Allison was looking forward to her birthday recently.  Then she found out that a dog named Ryker was in more need than she was.
Ryker is a K-9 unit with Allison's local police force.  And while most police officers wear bulletproof vests, apparently the vests for DOGS are pretty pricey.  So not all police departments have them, and Ryker has always done his job without one.
But Allison didn't think that was right.  So instead of asking for birthday presents this year, she asked friends and family to donate to the cause . . . and raised almost a THOUSAND DOLLARS to buy Ryker a vest.
On Thursday, the police station held a ceremony to thank Allison for what she did.  Police Chief James Neiswanger said it's a reminder that even at 10 years old, anyone is capable of making a positive impact on the world.  (WWLP / CNN)
