If you have to text while behind the wheel, at least pull over first. That’s the message of New York’s new Text Stops initiative, introduced by Governor Andrew Cuomo earlier this week. More than 90 rest stops, parking areas and Park-n-Rides across the state will become “texting zones.”
Motorists will be notified of the distance to the next Text Stop with almost 300 new signs along the New York State Thruway and State Highways. In addition to the new initiative, New York is also discouraging texting and driving by increasing fines for drivers caught in the act (now $150 plus five points on your license).
Seriously, people: it CAN wait!!
