ABC finally revealed the official cast of the 17th season of "Dancing with the Stars" on "Good Morning America" yesterday . . . and once again, it's a little underwhelming.
That's partially because most of the names had already been leaked . . . and partially because the definition of "stars" is still being stretched pretty thin, although this season's lineup IS an improvement over the last few duds.
There are two potential feel-good stories here: 74-year-old VALERIE HARPER and JACK OSBOURNE. Valerie has terminal brain cancer, and Jack was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis last year.
Valerie's doctor has said she's "close to a remission," but her cancer is incurable. She tells "People" magazine, quote, "I feel much better. And my brain scans are looking better too.
"The doctors tell me there's less evidence of cancer, which is very unusual. However, they both say it's not a case of if, but when. And I can live with that."
Valerie adds, quote, "When [the producers] asked [me to do the show], I thought, 'Why would I say no?' When life asks you to dance, you just have to dance."
Here are this season's pairings:
Former "Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "Rhoda" star Valerie Harper . . . with Tristan MacManus
