The Texas State Fair has always been THE epicenter of deep fried food innovation in the U.S. . . . and therefore, the world. And they didn't disappoint this year. Someone there ALWAYS manages to deep fry something new.
This year, one of the finalists for the Big Tex Choice Award for the best new food is . . . deep fried NUTELLA.
If you've never heard of Nutella, it's a chocolate hazelnut spread.
For the deep fried version, Nutella is mixed with cream cheese, spread over dough, rolled, and dropped in the fryer. It's served with honey and almonds. Sounds almost like deep fried chocolate baklava.
Its biggest competition this year is a fried Thanksgiving dinner . . . which is stuffing and turkey rolled in a ball, dipped in creamed corn, covered in corn meal, fried, and served with gravy and cranberry sauce.
The other competitors for the Big Tex Choice Award are a deep fried Cuban roll, deep fried pie, deep fried spinach and artichoke dip bites, deep fried meatloaf, and deep fried casserole. (Consumerist)
