There's a guy in Kyoto, Japan who's actually reached an INCREDIBLE milestone. His name is Jiroemon Kimura, and he's the LAST MAN ALIVE who was born in the 19th century.
Jiroemon was born on April 19th, 1897. He's 116 years old, which makes him the oldest person alive right now. He's also the longest-living man in HISTORY . . . no other male has made it to 116 years and 39 days, and counting.
There are 10 women born in the 1800s who are still alive. (Some articles say the number is 21, but we're only counting people from 1899 and earlier, not 1900.)
People who live past 110 years old are called "SUPERCENTENARIANS." There are only about 60 or so alive today with reliable records proving their age. And only 11 of them were born in the 1800s.
Jiroemon has been retired since he turned 65 . . . back in 1962. He got married when he was in his 20s. His wife died in 1978.
If you want some longevity tips from him, he has two: He eats small portions of food, and spends a ton of time in bed. (Sydney Morning Herald / Wikipedia)
