An 80-Year-Old and an 81-Year-Old Are Competing to Become the Oldest Person to Climb Mount Everest
Right now, 80-year-old Yuichiro Miura from Japan is in the "Death Zone" near the top of Mount Everest. He expects to reach the summit in a week.
If he succeeds, he'll become the oldest person to climb Everest . . . again.
That's because Yuichiro climbed Everest 10 years ago, and took the title of oldest climber . . . but his record was broken.
Then he climbed it AGAIN five years ago, and WOULD have gotten the title back . . . except a guy from Nepal named Min Bahadur Sherchan got there a DAY earlier.
Now Min is 81, and check this out . . . he's not taking Yuichiro's attempt on his record sitting down. He's currently at a base camp getting ready to climb Everest starting next week, so he can take BACK his record.
