Eight-year-old Nicole Miller of Mansfield, Ohio has a genetic kidney disorder, and has been waiting for a transplant for more than a year.
Her kidney problems caused her to be so tired that she sometimes had to miss school. Wendy Killian was her kindergarten teacher last year, and scheduled a conference with Nicole's parents to discuss her absences.
When they told her about Nicole's health problems, she decided to see if she could help. Because HER son had needed a platelet transfusion a few years ago.
So check this out: Wendy got tested . . . found out she was a match . . . and DONATED a kidney to her former student.
The surgery was last Tuesday at a hospital in Cleveland. Nicole will need six months to recover, but she and Wendy are both doing well. (Yahoo!)
