We don't WANT to turn you into a Howard Hughes-level germophobe . . . but after hearing THIS, you'll probably be paranoid every time you eat at home from now on.
--A nonprofit called NSF International just ran a study on people's kitchens, and found they're absolutely COVERED in germs.
--The six most contaminated items in the kitchen are: The vegetable and meat compartments in your fridge . . . the rubber seal under the blade of your blender . . . the can opener . . . the rubber spatula . . . and the rubber-sealed food storage containers.
--The one big thing those six all have in common: They all come in direct contact with raw meats and produce.
--The study found E. coli bacteria on 25% of the kitchen items tested . . . salmonella on 25% . . . listeria on 10% . . . and yeast and mold on 100%.
--So how do you avoid potentially contaminating your food? CLEAN more carefully. That means washing things like the blender base and the rubber gasket, not just the blender container . . . or running your refrigerator drawers through the dishwasher. (CBS News)
